Simulated Dating Conversation Through Meeting (Face to Face)

Context:
Aaron and Mika have already chatted and called.
Now they’re meeting in person for coffee after work on a Friday evening at a quiet café in BGC.

Mika enters the café, spots Aaron, and gives a small wave.

Aaron:
Hi, Mika?

Mika:
Hi. Aaron?

Aaron:
Yes. Nice to finally meet you in person.

Mika:
Nice to meet you too. Sorry, medyo late ako.

Aaron:
No problem. Traffic is traffic. I got here a bit early anyway.

Mika:
Good. At least may nauna nang nag-order ng coffee emotionally. 😄

Aaron:
Hahaha. Very accurate.
How was your ride?

Mika:
Not horrible, surprisingly. But BGC on a Friday still feels like a small challenge.

Aaron:
True. At least we both survived the commute. That already counts as a win.

They sit down. Mika puts her bag beside her and smiles a little more comfortably.

Mika:
So. Face to face na talaga.

Aaron:
Yeah. Medyo iba, but good weird.

Mika:
Good weird?

Aaron:
Yeah. Parang, familiar but still new.
You sound exactly like you do on the call, by the way.

Mika:
Is that good?

Aaron:
Yes. Very.
It means you’re consistent.

Mika:
Ahh, okay. I’ll take that.

Aaron:
You look calmer in person.

Mika:
That’s funny, because I was actually a little nervous walking in.

Aaron:
Really? I thought you’d be the composed one.

Mika:
I am composed.
Sometimes.
Give me five minutes. 😄

Aaron:
Fair enough. I can use the same five minutes, honestly.

A server comes by. They order drinks and a small pastry to share.

Mika:
You chose this place?

Aaron:
Yeah. I remembered you said you liked quiet spaces, so I tried to pick something not too loud.

Mika:
That was thoughtful. Thank you.

Aaron:
Sure. I figured if we were finally meeting, better to keep it easy.

Mika:
Very appreciated.
This is nice. Hindi siya masyadong pressured.

Aaron:
Good.
I didn’t want it to feel like a formal interview with coffee.

Mika:
Hahaha, thankfully not.

A short pause. They both smile a little.

Aaron:
So, how’s your week been really? Not the polite version.

Mika:
Haa, okay. Real version?
Busy. A lot of last-minute changes at work. And I had to help my dad with something at home, so medyo pagod ako.

Aaron:
That sounds like a lot.
You still made time to come here though, so thank you.

Mika:
I wanted to.
And honestly, I also wanted to see if you’re as calm in person as you are in chat and call.

Aaron:
And?

Mika:
So far, yes.
You’re slightly more awkward in person, but in a good way. 😄

Aaron:
Wow. That’s brutally honest for a first meeting.

Mika:
You said to be real.
I’m just observing.

Aaron:
Fair.
And for the record, I am a little awkward at first in person.

Mika:
That’s okay. It’s kind of endearing.

Aaron:
Endearing is better than “concerning,” so I’ll take it.

They laugh.

Mika:
You seem more relaxed now than earlier.

Aaron:
Yeah, slowly.
I think my brain just needed to accept that I’m not in danger.

Mika:
Hahaha, same.
I always tell myself that the first 10 minutes of any new meeting are just the body adjusting.

Aaron:
That’s actually a very accurate way to describe it.

Mika:
Mhm.

Aaron:
So, aside from being busy, what else has been keeping you sane lately?

Mika:
Coffee, honestly.
Also trying to sleep better.
And I started going to the gym again after stopping for a while.

Aaron:
Nice. That takes discipline.

Mika:
Not always. Some days I go because I already paid for it, so sayang naman. 😅

Aaron:
That’s still discipline.
Financial accountability is a motivator too.

Mika:
True. What about you?

Aaron:
Work, reading sometimes, walking around the city when I need to clear my head.
And I’ve been trying to be more intentional with my weekends.

Mika:
Meaning?

Aaron:
Meaning I used to just sleep half the day, then feel guilty the rest of it.
Now I try to actually use the time well — rest, errands, a little social life, maybe coffee.

Mika:
That sounds healthier.

Aaron:
Yeah.
I think I’ve gotten better at recognizing what kind of life actually works for me.

Mika:
That’s a good sign.

A waiter sets down their drinks. They thank him.

Aaron:
Thank you.

Mika:
Thanks.

They take a sip. Mika glances at him with a small smile.

Mika:
Okay, question.

Aaron:
Go.

Mika:
Were you nervous about meeting me?

Aaron:
Yes.
But not in a bad way.
More like… I wanted this to go well, so I was thinking too much earlier.

Mika:
Same.
I almost overthought what I should wear.

Aaron:
You look good. Very simple, but nice.

Mika:
Thank you.
You too. Very “professional guy who actually knows what he’s doing.”

Aaron:
That’s funny because half the time I’m just figuring things out.

Mika:
That’s true for everyone, I think.

Aaron:
Yeah.
Honestly, one thing I like about you so far is you’re easy to talk to, but you’re also not giving too much too fast.

Mika:
Ahh. So I pass the vibe check?

Aaron:
So far, yes.

Mika:
Good. I was worried about that.

Aaron:
Why?

Mika:
Because people can be very different in person.
Sometimes chat is good, call is good, then face to face becomes weird.
I didn’t want that.

Aaron:
Same.
That’s why I wanted to meet in a low-pressure way. Just coffee, no drama.

Mika:
Very wise.

Aaron:
I try.

She smiles, a little amused.

Mika:
You’re quieter than I expected.

Aaron:
Yeah, that happens when I’m still warming up.

Mika:
No, I mean in a good way.
You don’t talk just to fill space.

Aaron:
Oh.
That’s actually a nice thing to say.

Mika:
It is nice.
A lot of people think being talkative is the same as being engaging, but not always.

Aaron:
Very true.
I’d rather have a calm conversation than a noisy one that goes nowhere.

Mika:
Same.
At this point in life, I appreciate people who are present.

Aaron:
That’s a very good word. Present.
I think that’s what makes people comfortable.

Mika:
Yes.
Presence matters.

A small silence passes, but it feels comfortable rather than awkward.

Aaron:
Can I ask you something a bit more personal?

Mika:
Sure.

Aaron:
What made you open to meeting someone from an app in the first place?

Mika:
Hmm.
I think I reached a point where I wasn’t interested in random dating anymore.
If I’m going to make time, I want it to be for someone who feels steady and worth it.
Plus, work takes up a lot of my time already. So if I’m going to date, it should feel natural, not exhausting.

Aaron:
That makes sense.
I feel the same way.

Mika:
What about you? Why did you try the app?

Aaron:
Honestly?
I was curious, but also open.
I’ve met good people through work and friends, but not everyone is available or in the same place in life.
So I thought, okay, maybe let’s just be more intentional about meeting someone who’s also looking for something real.

Mika:
That’s fair.

Aaron:
And I didn’t want to approach it like a game.
I think I’m too old for that now.

Mika:
Hahaha, same.
I have no energy for mixed signals and guessing games.

Aaron:
Exactly.
At this point, clarity is attractive.

Mika:
Very attractive.

They both laugh lightly.

Aaron:
So what are you like in relationships? If I may ask.

Mika:
Hmm.
I’m pretty loyal, but I take time to trust.
I don’t like being rushed.
And once I’m comfortable, I’m very consistent.
But I also need space to breathe and still be myself.

Aaron:
That sounds very reasonable.

Mika:
It is. I think.
What about you?

Aaron:
I’m similar.
I don’t like drama, I communicate directly, and I value consistency a lot.
I’m also not the type to flood someone with attention and then disappear.

Mika:
Good answer.

Aaron:
I’ve learned that if I like someone, I’d rather be clear than act mysterious for no reason.

Mika:
That’s refreshing.

Aaron:
And I think there’s a difference between effort and intensity.
I prefer effort.

Mika:
I like that.
Intensity can be misleading.

Aaron:
Exactly.
Anyone can be intense. Not everyone can be reliable.

Mika:
Very true.

They both take a sip again. Mika seems more relaxed now.

Mika:
Okay, I have a random question.

Aaron:
Sure.

Mika:
What do you notice first in a person?

Aaron:
Hmm.
How they carry themselves, probably.
Not in a superficial way.
More like how they speak, how they react, whether they’re comfortable with themselves.
And you?

Mika:
The way they talk to service staff, strangers, people they don’t need anything from.

Aaron:
That’s a great answer.

Mika:
Well, it says a lot.

Aaron:
It does.
I pay attention to that too.

Mika:
Good.
Because kindness is not a big dramatic thing. It’s usually very small.

Aaron:
That’s true.
Small things reveal a lot.

Mika:
Like what?

Aaron:
Like whether someone listens when you’re speaking.
Or whether they remember details.
Or whether they treat a simple meeting like it matters.

Mika:
Ah.
You remembered that I like quiet places.

Aaron:
Of course.

Mika:
Okay, that was a good move.

Aaron:
I’m trying not to waste my points too early.

Mika:
Points? 😄

Aaron:
Yeah, like in a game.
I feel like every good conversation earns points.

Mika:
That’s a very nerdy way to see dating.

Aaron:
Is that a bad thing?

Mika:
No.
It’s actually cute.

Aaron smiles and looks away for a second, slightly bashful.

Aaron:
Cute again. I’m starting to think you’re generous with that word.

Mika:
Maybe. But only when deserved.

Aaron:
That’s dangerous.

Mika:
Why?

Aaron:
Because now I want to earn more of it.

Mika:
Hahaha. That’s on you.

A comfortable pause. They both smile, then Aaron leans back a little.

Aaron:
I’m curious — what kind of person do you naturally feel safe with?

Mika:
Someone calm.
Not emotionally lazy, but calm.
Someone who doesn’t make me guess where I stand.
And someone who can handle honesty without taking everything personally.

Aaron:
That’s a mature answer.

Mika:
It’s just what works for me.

Aaron:
I think I’d be similar.
I feel safe with people who don’t overcomplicate things.
Clear communication, steady effort, no mind games.

Mika:
Yes.
No mind games please. Nakakapagod.

Aaron:
Completely agree.

Mika:
What about family?
You mentioned you grew up in Pampanga, right?

Aaron:
Yeah. My parents are still there.
I go home when I can, usually once or twice a month.

Mika:
Close kayo?

Aaron:
Yes.
Not in a dramatic, always-together way.
But close enough that I still feel like family matters a lot in my decisions.

Mika:
That’s nice.

Aaron:
How about you?

Mika:
Same.
My parents are getting older, so I try to be available when they need help.
It’s one reason I’m careful with my time now.

Aaron:
That says a lot about your priorities.

Mika:
Yeah.
Dating becomes different when you realize your life already has responsibilities.

Aaron:
Exactly.
That’s why I like talking to someone who gets that.
It feels more grounded.

Mika:
I get it.

Aaron:
And honestly, you do seem very grounded.

Mika:
Thank you.
You’re not bad yourself.
You seem like the type who doesn’t say things just to sound nice.

Aaron:
I try not to.
I’d rather be genuine than smooth.

Mika:
That’s attractive, actually.

Aaron gives a small laugh, clearly pleased but trying not to make it too obvious.

Aaron:
Careful, Mika. You’re making this very easy for me to smile too much.

Mika:
Good.
You look better when you smile.

Aaron:
That’s unfairly flattering.

Mika:
It’s true though.

A brief silence. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

Aaron:
So, this is a little random, but I have to say — meeting you in person confirmed something.

Mika:
What’s that?

Aaron:
You’re even easier to talk to face to face than on chat.

Mika:
Oh? How so?

Aaron:
Because you’re direct, but soft.
You know when to tease, when to be serious, and when to just let a conversation breathe.

Mika:
That’s a very nice observation.

Aaron:
I’m learning from the best. 😄

Mika:
There you go again, trying to be charming.

Aaron:
Is it working?

Mika:
Maybe a little.

They laugh. The conversation shifts into a more casual rhythm.

Mika:
What do you usually do after this?
Like, after a first meet?

Aaron:
If it went well, I’d usually just be honest and say I enjoyed it.
Then I’d check if the other person wants to meet again sometime, no pressure.

Mika:
That’s nice. Very straightforward.

Aaron:
I think people deserve clarity.

Mika:
Agreed.

Aaron:
So... I did enjoy this.

Mika:
I did too.

Aaron:
Good.
Would you be open to doing this again? Maybe dinner next time, or another coffee if you want to keep it simple.

Mika:
Hmm.
Another coffee sounds safe. But dinner also sounds okay if it’s not too fancy.

Aaron:
Noted.
We’ll keep it simple and not make it weird.

Mika:
Please. 😄

Aaron:
Great.
Then I’ll message you later and we can pick a day that works.

Mika:
Okay.

Aaron:
Also, for what it’s worth, I’m really glad we met.

Mika:
Same.
It feels easy.
That’s important for me.

Aaron:
Me too.

Mika smiles, softer now, more comfortable than when she arrived.

Mika:
Well... this was better than I expected.

Aaron:
Same.
I was nervous, but in a good way.

Mika:
You didn’t seem too nervous.

Aaron:
I was hiding it with coffee.

Mika:
Ah, so the real source of your confidence.

Aaron:
Absolutely. Caffeine and hope.

Mika:
Valid.

They both laugh again.

Aaron:
Ready to head out soon?

Mika:
Yeah, I think so.
I still have to fight traffic going home.

Aaron:
Of course. Adulting never stops.

Mika:
Unfortunately.

Aaron:
Okay. Let me walk you out.

Mika:
Thank you.

They stand up, gather their things, and head toward the exit.

Aaron:
Thanks again for meeting me, Mika.

Mika:
Thank you too, Aaron.
Good first meet.

Aaron:
Very good first meet.

Mika:
Text me later.

Aaron:
I will. Safe trip home.

Mika:
You too.
