Shopify theme speed checks (afternoon pass)

A focused checklist for theme and app bloat on Shopify stores.

1. Baseline

Measure mobile LCP on a collection page and a product page.

Note app script count in the theme editor or network panel.

2. Theme hygiene

Remove unused sections and snappy third-party widgets from the critical path.

Prefer native theme features before stacking apps for the same job.

3. Media

Compress hero and PDP images; use responsive srcset.

Lazy-load secondary galleries and below-the-fold blocks.

4. Apps and tags

Audit marketing, chat, and upsell apps that inject global scripts.

Keep only what moves conversion; turn the rest off on PDP if unused.

5. Verify

Re-test the same URLs after each change.

Document wins so the next theme update does not undo them.
