AKUNGBA-AKOKO, Ondo State, July 24, 2026

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Chapter, Comrade Boluwaji “Bolu” Oshodi, has said the union will not immediately call off its ongoing industrial action even if the Ondo State Government settles the outstanding salary arrears owed to lecturers, maintaining that several unresolved issues must also be addressed before the dispute can be brought to an end.

Oshodi made the disclosure during an interview aired on the 7:00 a.m. news bulletin of Crest 106.1 FM Nigeria on Friday while speaking on the state of the ongoing industrial action and the union’s engagement with the Ondo State Government.

According to him, the payment of salary arrears alone is insufficient to resolve the dispute between the union and the state government. He explained that while the settlement of outstanding salaries could warrant a suspension of the strike, it would not result in a complete call-off because other welfare and employment related issues remain unresolved.

He stated that the industrial action was declared to press for the resolution of multiple concerns affecting members of the union, stressing that a lasting solution would only be achieved when all outstanding demands are adequately addressed.

When asked how soon the strike could end, Oshodi declined to give a specific timeline, saying:

“I hope the strike will end soon.”

The statement suggests that the duration of the strike remains uncertain and will largely depend on the outcome of ongoing discussions between the union and the Ondo State Government.

The indefinite strike has continued to disrupt academic activities at Adekunle Ajasin University, leaving students awaiting a resolution that will allow lectures and other academic activities to resume.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government had not issued any official response to the ASUU chairman’s latest remarks.

BACKGROUND:

The AAUA chapter of ASUU commenced an indefinite industrial action over unresolved labour related issues, including outstanding salary arrears and other welfare concerns. Since the strike began, academic activities at the institution have remained suspended, while students and other stakeholders continue to await the outcome of negotiations between the union and the Ondo State Government.
