Mindset When programming

I know a bit of a lot, I have knowledge of C syntax and have been using Linux for a short time now, like a year, and have need of some mindset change, I have been using Windows for work and, seeing as the only time I get to actually use Linux is during my own time, how can i "refactor" my mind so that I am able to take in new technical information and use that in the programming space, I use Arch Linux on my panasonic Let's Note CF-S10 and would really like to get into C Programming, but a challenge that I have is that it does take me some time to even grasp some of the basics. I know the syntax and am able to understand pointers and such, but how can I approach technical documentation and have it "stick"?

I hope you do not mind this question, also hope this is the correct place for this.

Hope the day goes well.
