Between Decision and Hesitation: a divided heart before the call
In the prophetic song of Deborah, in Book of Judges 5:15–16, the Holy Spirit exposes a conflict that runs deep within the human heart:
“Great were the resolves of heart…” (v.15)
“…great were the searchings of heart.” (v.16, NKJV)
Two almost identical expressions… yet spiritually opposite.
Two inner movements… but one result: inaction.
🔥 The great resolves of the heart
Reuben felt it.
His heart was stirred.
A voice rose within him:
“This is the moment.”
“God is moving.”
“I must go.”
He was not indifferent. He was not cold.
There were right thoughts, sincere intentions, genuine spiritual impulses.
This is when the Holy Spirit ignites something inside you:
a calling
a consecration
a step of faith
a break from the past
It is the initial fire, when the heart says, “Yes, Lord!”
⚖️ The great hesitations of the heart
But then… something shifts.
The mind steps in.
The flesh begins to speak.
Fear starts whispering:
“What if I’m wrong?”
“Maybe it’s not the right time…”
“I’ll wait a little longer…”
And the heart that had decided… begins to argue with itself.
Reuben did not say “no” to God.
Reuben delayed God.
And while he reflected, analyzed, and weighed everything…
the battle moved on without him.
💔 The spiritual tragedy
“Great resolves” become “great hesitations” when:
time passes
obedience is delayed
the fire is not fed
What was Spirit… becomes reasoning.
What was revelation… becomes confusion.
And in the end, one remains among the sheepfolds (v.16):
a place of comfort, yet far from the movement of God.
⚡ Prophetic revelation
It is often not open sin that stops us…
but spiritual indecision.
Not a direct “no” to God…
but a quiet “not now.”
And so the heart becomes divided:
one part wants to follow God
the other wants to stay safe
And when the heart is divided… the step never happens.
🔥 The call of the Spirit
Today God is not only looking for sensitive hearts…
but for decisive hearts.
It is not enough to say:
“Lord, I hear Your voice”
You must say:
“Lord, I obey now.”
Because heaven moves with those who respond immediately, not with those who delay.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, guard my heart from this subtle deception.
Do not let my resolves turn into hesitations.
When You speak, give me the grace to respond without delay, without compromise, without fear.
Tear away every double-mindedness, every indecision, every reasoning that quenches the fire.
I do not want to remain among the sheepfolds… I want to walk in Your will.Make me ready, decisive, and obedient to Your voice.
Amen.
