(0:08) Hello, Endeavor here. The ongoing Russo-Ukraine war being fought in the region between the Denpro River and the Crimean Peninsula is not the first extended struggle for control over those lands in their history. Long before the present-day conflict between the modern states of Ukraine and Russia started in 2014, the Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire fought numerous wars over the course of several centuries for rule over the territory. After several victories over the Ottomans during the 18th century, the Russian Empire successfully annexed the Crimean Karnate in 1783. Following the acquisition of the territory, Russian peasants began settling the region which had primarily been inhabited by Muslim Tadars prior. Four years later that Sarina Katherine the Great of Russia toured the newly annexed territories for several months in 1787.
(0:56) Gregori Ptokin, a field marshal in the Imperial Russian army and one of the Zorina's many lovers, had distinguished himself in Russia's wars against the Ottomans and had overseen the annexation of Crimea in 1783. While this story is likely more legend than fact, a rumor was spread in the imperial court in St. Petersburg that in order to impress her imperial highness, Ptokin devised a scheme to make the war torn region more appealing for her. He was said to have ordered the construction of artificial villages consisting of nothing more than facades of local buildings. Populated by his troops posing as happy peasants to show Catherine on her journey along the Denpro River. Once she toured a phony village, it would be deconstructed, shipped down the river, and rebuilt for her to unwittingly be shown around again in an attempt to please her with the newly annexed territory.
(1:46) It's generally believed that this story is largely fictional and that Ptokin never actually set up these fake settlements in an attempt to impress his monarch and lover. Nonetheless, this myth resulted in the coinage of the phrase Ptokin village. A ptocin village is a hollow facade of a flourishing locality constructed with the purpose of giving the illusion of prosperity where none exists in actuality. The term does not only refer to full-scale replicas of settlements, but also more generally to attempts at creating a widespread illusion of success to hide a decrepit uninspiring reality.
(2:21) Even if the historicity of Ptokin's fake settlements along the Denpro River is questionable, some examples of similar practices have in fact taken place in modern history. In the old west of the American frontier, it was common practice to build extravagant facads on simple wooden buildings in order to make a newly established town appear more developed than it really was. Present day China features a number of ghost cities, massive urban developments which are largely uninhabited. Despite being dramatically underused, such projects are often pointed to as a sign of economic growth, possibly leading to an inflated sense of prosperity in China.
(2:58) The Ptokin village was a phenomenon which appeared frequently under communist regimes of the 20th century for the purposes of ideological validation. The most notable examples could be found in North Korea. A Pumpkin village known as Kij Jong Dong or peace village stands only a few kilometers away from the South Korean border in the demilitarized zone. The village was constructed shortly after the Korean War to give the false impression of success in the north in hopes of enticing defectors from the south but is almost entirely empty in reality. The North Korean capital Pyongyang also features several similar deceptions such as the Ruing Hotel, the largest building in the country. After several decades of intermittent construction, the exterior was completed, making it the most notable feature of the Pyongyang skyline. Yet, its vacant interior remains unfinished.
(3:48) Such hamfisted propaganda as Kiong Dong or Ru Yongyang may be laughably unconvincing today. But there was a time when the smoke and mirrors of Marxist regimes effectively influenced the perception the outside world had of them. In the early 1930s, Joseph Stalin's policy of forced collectivization of agriculture in the USSR resulted in a famine which caused the deaths of millions primarily in Ukraine. As rumors of mass starvation reached the West, the USSR invited sympathetic voices such as Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw and former French Prime Minister Eduard to tour various regions of the country. In Aru's case, several destinations on his tour were the same as those of Katherine the Great a century and a half earlier.
(4:33) In a similar vein to Ptokin's mythical villages along the Deniper, these guests were only shown selectively chosen model factories and farms, which while real were far from representative of the rest of the country. Upon their return, Shaw and Aru declared that there was no famine in the USSR and that such claims were simply bourgeoa slander of the proletarian state. This served to affirm the ideological biases of leftist intellectuals in the west, allowing them to maintain the belief that the Soviet system was a success when in reality the proletariat of the so-called workers paradise were starving to death by the million.
(5:12) Parallels can be drawn between this distorted view of the Soviet Union among Marxists in the 1930s and the present-day liberal establishment's perception of my native country, Canada. Unlike the Stalinist USSR, Canada's prosperity was once genuine. For several decades in the late 20th and early 21st century, Canada boasted a worldclass standard of living worthy of the envy of countries around the world. Along with its economic prosperity, Canada also became noteworthy during this era for its enthusiastic embrace of progressive liberal values such as multiculturalism, the admission of large-scale immigration, LGBT rights, and feminism. Canada was pointed to by liberals both at home and abroad as the quintessential example of the success of the progressive worldview.
(5:57) However, the country's fortunes have begun to change in the past decade. In terms of economic growth, Canada experienced the third lowest real GDP per capita growth from 2014 to 2024 out of the 38 OECD countries. The country has been suffering from a housing crisis for the past decade with one of the most unaffordable house price to income ratios in the OECD with wages failing to keep up with exponentially increasing costs. Housing is not the only commodity seeing high levels of inflation. Canada currently has the highest rate of inflation of food prices among G7 countries. As of the end of 2025, Canada had the 11th highest unemployment rate in the OECD and the second highest in the G7. The Canadian dollar is now the most heavily shorted by speculators among the major currencies on the global market.
(6:45) Aside from the economic downturn, how have Canada's progressive social policies fared? Canada's generous immigration policy has left the country open to exploitation. The International Mobility Program, the Temporary foreign Worker Program, and the International Students Program have made it easy for millions of foreigners to gain illegitimate entry into Canada in the past 5 years. Domestic businesses have taken advantage of these policies, too. Industries such as fast food have used excess labor to drive down wages. Real estate companies have benefited from the skyrocketing prices as a result of the rapid population growth. and universities have profited lucratively from the ease at which they can fraudulently admit foreigners.
(7:25) Canada's so-called diversity is on full display when one scrolls down the X timeline of CP24 Toronto Crime Watch to see pictures of perpetrators of recent crimes. Of those arrested for homicide in Canada in 2021, 29% were indigenous and 20% were black, despite making up 5% and 4.3% of the population, respectively. The conclusion the Canadian judicial system has come to is that systemic racism and historical trauma are to blame for their disproportionately high rates of violent crime. On that basis, Canadian courts have now established the legal precedent that indigenous and black offenders, the two most violent demographics, are to be given reduced sentences on the express basis of their race.
(8:08) In addition to criminality, diversity has also brought general societal disorder and disunityity. Rival foreign ethnic blocks, be it Turks versus Armenians, Jews versus Arabs, or Hindus versus Sikhs, have brought their conflicts along with them, often staging opposing demonstrations in major cities, and occasionally engaging in street fights. The high trust design of Canadian society has made exploitation by migrants from lowrust foreign cultures extremely easy. Emblematic of this is the phenomenon of international students primarily from India taking advantage of the food bank system using what is meant to be a charity for the poor as a free food racket. I wrote about this scam in my essay why Canada can no longer have nice things.
(8:51) Calling the assertion that diversity is our strength into further question are the numerous scandals involving individuals in positions of influence exercising blatant conflicts of interest motivated by their ethnic backgrounds. There was the former leader of the NDP Jagmeit Singh who was associated with radical seek separatism in India. There was also the former Liberal Party defense minister Harjit Sajan. Another SEK who during the evacuation of Kabul in 2021 redirected resources designated to evacuating Canadian citizens to evacuating Afghan Sikhs instead. Then there was the case of the three SEK MPs from the Conservative Party traveling to Punjab to meet with SEEK leaders who expressed an opposition to calls for stricter rules regarding student visas in Canada. While seeks may display the most blatant conflict of interest, they are certainly not the only group to use positions of influence for an ulterior ethnic agenda. Multiple Canadian citizens of Chinese ancestry have been caught engaging in espionage on behalf of China, turning over business, scientific, and military secrets. There was also the black police superintendent in Toronto who was caught helping other black officers cheat on an exam for a promotion. Then there was Justin Trudeau's former deputy prime minister Christia Freeland who while being a member of parliament simultaneously accepted an advisory role appointed to her by Volimir Zalinski, the president of Ukraine.
(10:13) The enthusiastic adoption of LGBT values has led to numerous absurdities which would have been considered too ridiculous for satire a few decades ago. British Columbia seems to be a hotbed for LGBT related insanity. There was the incident of the BC father losing authority over his 14-year-old daughter for opposing her gender transition, being ordered by a court to refer to her as his son, and even being jailed for speaking out about the ordeal in the media. Then there was the case of the BC trans activist who has a history of deliberately antagonizing Vancouver businesses, then filing human rights complaints against them, such as threatening to sue a women's beauty salon for not waxing his male genitalia. Most tragically of all was the Tumblr Ridge massacre, a shooting carried out by a mentally unstable maleto-female transgender teen, which resulted in nine dead, including the perpetrator, and 27 injured.
(11:08) The Canadian military boasted an increase in recruitment over the past year, but this ostensible success is misleading. In order to increase the recruitment numbers on paper, the military has drastically lowered standards in regards to physical fitness and dress and even gone so far as to accept recent migrants without Canadian citizenship into the military. While neglecting combat readiness, the Canadian military has been busy forcing troops to undergo ludicrous woke indoctrination seminars on the supposed evils of white supremacy, colonialism, and patriarchy. A recent leaked report showed that the Canadian military had become a total farce with incompetent migrant recruits squabbbling among each other and failing to meet the already lowered standards while the DEI women put in charge or unable to control them.
(11:53) According to the 2026 World Happiness Report, Canada has declined from sixth out of 147 countries in 2015 in overall happiness to 25th. However, the decline was much more significant among young adults under the age of 25 with Canada now ranking 71st. Nubio currently ranks Canada at 27th out of 89 countries on its quality of life index, a decline from the rank of seventh which Canada held in 2014. A controversial article in the Globe and Mail published in February 2026 argued that based on some metrics, Canada is now poorer than the US state of Alabama.
(12:28) Though Canada has experienced numerous economic and social wos over the past decade, the reputation of the country among some segments of the public and outsiders from abroad remains unchanged. A global survey conducted by the University of Pennsylvania on which countries are perceived as the best ranked Canada at fourth in the world. In a survey by Politico, respondents from Spain, the UK, France, and Germany all ranked Canada in the top three in a list of countries of which they believe would be the best to live in. Canada tied Switzerland for the number one spot on another survey which ranked countries by how well respected they are worldwide. Domestically, despite overseeing the worst figures of economic growth of any prime minister since 1963 in their first year of office, about 60% of Canadians pled reported approving of Mark Carney's handling of the economy. Carney holds one of the highest approval ratings among leaders around the world today, standing at 54% in mid 2026. In spite of having led the country for a decade in which quality of life in Canada saw a significant decline in many metrics, the Liberal Party of Canada is more popular in the polls than they were a year ago and would likely win a majority of seats if an election were to be held in 2026.
(13:41) How is it that Canada's stature as a country has remained so high in light of a notable decline in wealth and social cohesion? The answer has a lot to do with the Canadian national disposition and ideological pride of those maintaining these sentiments. Last year, I made a video about why Trumpian populism wasn't an effective political formula in Canada. In it, I explained how Canada is a country which highly values prestige and pursues this through a devotion to elite ideological consensuses. Historically, this took the form of loyalism to the monarchy and the British Empire. Today, this disposition is expressed through a devotion to progressive liberal post-war globalism, the elite consensus of the current era.
(14:20) The Canadian establishment spends an enormous amount of effort maintaining the image of Canada as a modern, progressive, liberal, globalized country. Progressive politics in Canada are not only ideological, but also performative. The establishment not only desires to implement these policies, but also to be seen implementing them by the Canadian public and the international community. Whether it's mass immigration, multiculturalism, sustainable development, feminism, LGBT normalization, or COVID restrictions, they want to be seen enthusiastically embracing these trends. This impetus can be seen in the political posturing of the Canadian government in response to global elite attitudes.
(14:58) During the Great Awakening, when progressive politics in the West became substantially more overt and aggressive, no world leader better embodied the spirit of this era than Justin Trudeau during his decade in office from 2015 to 2025. He was the archetypal of feminite woke beta male politician which became commonplace in Western countries in those years. His gestures towards this ideological fad included monthly tearful apologies for every event in Canadian history, exponentially increasing immigration, declaring Canada a postnational country, and immediately embracing every single new anti-racist, feminist, or LGBT craze.
(15:41) Following the recent populist backlash to the excesses of the Great Awakening, the elite class have since rebranded to a more moderate image. Mark Carney is the quintessential Davos man. His persona is that of an eloquent, highly competent, internationally connected, and palatably progressive world leader. This is the exact image which the liberal elite wish to put forth in contrast to the brash, reckless, and anti-intellectual character of Donald Trump and Trumpian populism more broadly. A leader like Mark Carney is made even more appealing to progressive liberals due to Canada's geographic and cultural proximity to the United States, giving them an example of what they believe a supposed good America would look like. Projecting this image more than any objective metric is why Canada maintains a stellar reputation among liberals and the international community. It's because it allows those of this ideological bent to maintain the belief in the validity of their worldview.
(16:35) This is not to say that the populist response has fared much better. For reasons I've addressed in my essay against sloppulism, the second Trump administration has largely failed to deliver a viable alternative. The liberal establishment would like to use the failure of populism to deflect criticism from progressivist globalism. Meaning the reputation of countries like Canada which have remained loyal to this creed is important to them. In many ways, the stupidity of Trump has been a godsend for them. However, an objective look at the concrete reality under the surface reveals that their system is still failing regardless of their ability to save face.
(17:11) Contrary to the liberal narratives of the past few decades, the truth is that Canada's historical prosperity as a nation was the result of the ingenuity and merit of the settlers from France and the British Isles who built the country. Carrying Western civilization in their blood, they built an extension of that civilization on the North American continent. With access to the plentiful natural resources the land had to offer, those European settlers were able to build a wealthy, stable, and safe country with a quality of life among the best in the world. Canada's historic success was not the result of post-war progressive liberal values. The timing of the introduction of these values in the late 20th century made it easy for those of this political persuasion to claim Canada as evidence of the worth of their ideology. The reality is however that these progressive liberal values have been the main catalyst for the decline of the standard of living in the country.
(18:03) While the establishment still wants to hold on to the narrative of Canada as a liberal progressive success story, the reality of the country is moving further and further away from this misguided perception. Unlike the Soviet Union, where access to information was heavily restricted, all the facts I've referenced in this video are readily available on the internet. Nonetheless, the illusion of Canada as a progressive liberal paradise remains. This is because the phenomenon of a Ptokin village is not made effective by the facade itself. The deception only really works when the subject truly wants to be deceived. A Ptopican village allows one to see only what they want to see and believe whatever they want to believe. It's an act of selfdeception above all else.
(18:45) Did George Bernard Shaw and Edward Aru go to the USSR undecided of their opinion on the country only to be convinced that it was in fact the workers utopia by what they saw? No, they came to that conclusion because that's what validated their preconceived belief set. The heavily scripted tours they were taken on only enabled them to rationalize their political biases. The same is the case with Canada's well-curated image as the ideal liberal democracy today. Progressive liberals at home and abroad choose to be deceived because it provides them ideological vindication and the ability to deny the failures of their worldview.
(19:21) The obvious flaw of a Ptocin village is that it's nothing more than a veneer of prosperity constructed in order to maintain one's vanity against a lackluster reality. It is an act of desperation which only delays one's confrontation with the truth a little longer. Residual prestige based on past success and the maintenance of a polished image are not enough to uphold the legitimacy of a failing system indefinitely. Sooner or later, the decrepit interior hidden by the artificial facade of the West's progressive liberal values must be acknowledged, and the need for a fundamental change must be addressed.
